” Clearing Alabama and Mississippi of their Indian populations, he said, would “enable those states to advance rapidly in population, wealth, and power.”
Historical Context -the historical context is during the 1830s the Indian removal act where Americans forced the Indians out of their own land in order to move across the nation. The reason they forced the native Americans out of their own land was have westward expansion and movement across the new world. The Indian removal act that was signed by president Andrew Jackson within the existing borders for the improvement to the expansion for the United States and what we wanted to do as a new nation as far as expansion. He believed that if we cleared out the states of Alabama Mississippi in order to have advancement in rapid people growth in population for families and expansion of cities. The reason they were forcing Indians out of their tribes was to have strength and power in the new world against our new neighbors. We felt like we needed the country because we had power with guns and power about these indigenous people. We knew we could take advantage of these people because the Indians really didn't realize how much of the great land they were living on and not using the great resources around them. At first when we colonized we tried to be good acquaintances with the Indians but we stand how barbaric they were and couldn't deal with it. As Americans we believed that we had to move these people out of their parts of land in order to help our new world population. We felt like we needed to grow as the new population from Britain to prove that we are becoming a greater stronger country who no longer needed their was what they were trying to prove and teach to us.
Intended Audience - the intended audience was basically to both the Americans and Native Americans because they were trying to show how the American were more powerful than the Natives by forcing them into smaller reservations. They felt like this was their new land they were trying to discover and didn't really have a great opinions on the Natives who lived there during the time. President Andrew Jackson signed the Indian removal act because he knew we had power over these indigenous people and had could easily annihilate these people if they really wanted to. Instead our president was being a decent person was able to “compromise” with the Natives in order for us to gain more land while pushing these Indians into smaller pieces of land that were not as suitable for the Natives. They were enclosed into smaller living spaces and didn't offer too much help as far as what we're making them work for.
Purpose- The purpose of Andrew Jackson signing the bill was to make America bigger in order for more urban growth. He didn't really enjoy the Indians and knew they didn't have as much work effort than some of the other immigrants coming into the new America. The purpose of the expert was to show that Andrew Jackson felt that in order to move these people out of their own lands was to have more power against them because we knew that we could easily over power and possibly take out their whole population. Instead of him doing mass destruction towards these people he wanted to be more “civilized” and move them into smaller areas of the land in order to increase the American growth. At first when Jackson signed the bill most Indians went out peacefully. However many Indian tribes didn't want to leave the land they were born and lived on prior to anyone invading their space. In a sense you could see why so many Indians were so upset with the whole situation. I think we have to understand what Jackson was trying to accomplish for our nation because this was during the time of Manifest Destiny. We wanted to keep expanding and this bill really showed us that in order to be a strong country we had to make stronger action moves.
:The point of view is from the New Americans that were taking the Natives land for no reason in order to have westward expansion and manifest Destiny. The Americans were looking for ways to expand our way across the big continent and hoping to accomplish that. We overpowered many people and many races which was totally discriminant in my part. There were many things that followed these acts to help make immigrants go through certain stages in order to become a US citizen. In order to become a US citizen you had to know the US constitution as well as go through a long process in order to prove you are worthy to be here as a new US citizen. We were being very harsh to these people even though we took over their own land. We forced the Natives out which was not human at all because this was their land before anyone else. The new Americans were being was too greedy and wanted to take over the land for the reason of being able to conquer the whole part of North America.
