H-Historical Context I-INtended Audience P-Point of VIew P-Purpose
H- In the early European settlements in the America, the Spanish were one of the first to settle. The Spanish had high expectations for their settlement in the Americas. The America’s vast amount of gold and new crops brought riches to Spain making Spain one of the wealthiest countries in its time. This caused them to take advantage of the land and the natives for their own selfish benefits The Spanish brought their crops and livestock to the Americas, the rich soil and great environment helped develop the expansion of more settlers in the “new” land. More settlers came and neglected the treatment of land and of the natives. The Spaniards introduced the first ideas of slavery to the Americas with their “Encomienda” system. The encomienda system changed the lives of the natives dramatically. They were forced into farm or mine labor and they were split from their families and they were forced into poor living conditions and fed little to no food. Their land was stripped from them and they were no longer allowed to practice their religion or demonstrate anything to do with their cultural. There were some priest who believed what they were practicing was wrong and inhumane.
I-. It was directed at the conquistadores who were being led by the Spanish King. You can also say it was intended for the people in Spain so they can know about what was happening in the Americas . So they can taught about the injustice happening that their King was causing because of his desire for wealth , power and land.
P- This expert was in the view of Bartolome De Las Casa a priest and social reformer. At this time period there were not who was against the injustice his people were causing the Natives and the land they were occupying. It could also be in the point of view of any reasonable and humane person that can detect when a group of individuals are being taken advantage of and exploiting their human rights as well as land.
P- It was to demonstrate first hand experience of what was actually happening to the natives not just what the conquistadores were told to say about the situation in the Americas. The priest wanted to voice the truth and influence society. His intentions were to bring awareness to the harm the Spaniards were causing to the native americans and to their land that they were exploiting as well. He was demonstrating how far the desire of wealth has caused malicious actions to be taken with no justification in the name of the King of Spain.
